A horrific road accident occurred on the Digha-Nandakumar National Highway on Thursday morning, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and leaving three others critically injured. The incident took place near Heriya when a speeding lorry rammed into the back of a stationary private bus. The collision caused a massive uproar in the area as locals rushed to the scene upon hearing the loud crash and immediately alerted the local authorities.
The private bus was en route from Howrah to Digha when it experienced sudden mechanical problems, forcing the driver to park the vehicle on the side of the highway for repairs. The bus owner, driver, and helpers were collectively inspecting the vehicle's breakdown when the incoming lorry struck them from behind. The impact crushed the individuals standing near the vehicle, leaving them in a severely injured and bloody state on the road.
Upon being informed, the Khejuri police station authorities arrived to rescue the victims and transport them to the hospital, where doctors declared four of them dead on arrival. The deceased have been identified as bus owner Tapan Das, driver Shivbrata Patnaik, and helpers Ashok Maiti and Shubhdeep Mandal. The three injured survivors are currently undergoing treatment in critical condition at the Tamluk District Hospital, while the police have seized the offending lorry to begin a formal investigation.
